Back to School Savings on Backpacks

Buying a Backpack for School

As a father of active boys, I frequently find that things simply wear out.  For this reason, when I began looking at backpacks this year at Walmart I was a little disappointed.
Hello Kitty backpack from Walmart
Very colorful, but Hello Kitty wouldn't really suit my boys.  Also, the construction didn't appear to meet the demands of my active boys.

Buzz Lightyear backpack from Walmart
My boys love Buzz Lightyear, so this backpack would be a favorite.  However, in my opinion the construction still left something to be desired.  Also, I have no need to pay for Disney Characters instead of quality.

My boys still haven't encountered Iron Man (not necessarily a bad thing) and this backpack was also lacking the durability I desired.

I was looking in the Back to School section and found that nothing in my price range seemed to have the quality I had hoped to get.  Then I realized that there was another section of the store which routinely carries backpacks.

Better Quality Backpacks (for boys) for the same or better prices

As I headed back to the camping and outdoors section of the store, I wasn't too sure what I would find.  My seven year old son definitely didn't need an aluminum framed trail pack for school!  However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could get an acceptable level of quality in the camping section of the store for about half the price I would have payed in the prominent Back to School section.

Here is a picture of the backpack we eventually bought for our son.

Fieldline Pro Series Backpack we bought for our son
This backpack cost about the same as the others I have pictured here.  However, it has padded straps and back for comfort and a better type of fabric construction.
Camouflage is appealing to many boys, mine included, and this one looks as if it should last even my boys for a couple of years.

I'm not sure how helpful this would be to parents of girls.  All the backpacks in this line are either green or camouflage.  However, there are a couple of them designed for girls with pink accents, pull strings, etc.
